Permits & Fees
Every vessel, regardless of their origin or ship type (sailboat, motorboat, etc) must obtain, in the last port previous to their arrival to the islands, a certificate of fumigation and a clean hull certificate to guarantee that the hull is clean and free of algae and invertebrates. Inside the ship there will not be any plants nor any organic decoration.
It is important to remember that it is critical to avoid the introduction of foreign species that could become a threat for the native fauna and flora.
Super Yacht Visit
For a private Yacht to visit the protected areas of the Galapagos islands it will need two permits:
1. A government authorization for the entry of foreign vessels, also called “AUTOGRAFO”, which is issued by the Ecuador Ministry of Defense. It is recommended to request this permit two months before arriving to the islands.
2. Authorization for the Yacht to visit the protected areas of the Galapagos National Park, with a defined itinerary specifying the places to be visited and the activities that can be done on those sites. It is obligatory to hire a Galapagos Naturalist Guide who will be with the visitors at all times while in the islands.
The documents necessary to request the visitors permit are:
- Copy of the passports of all visitors and the crew
- Yacht Certificate of registry a as "Pleasure Yacht"
- Black or Grey waters certificate
- Yacht´s P & I insurance
- Prove that the vessel has an automatic Identification system (AIS)
- Certificate of Fumigation and clean hull.

Scientific Vessel Visit
Ships visiting the Galapagos islands protected areas for scientific research will need:
- Approval of the scientific project by the Galapagos National Park authorities
- Authorization by the Oceanographic Institute of the Ecuadorian Navy
- Authorization of entry to Ecuador by the Ministry of Defense
- The protocols for scientific research also demand that an observer of the Ecuadorian Navy and from the Galapagos National Park must be onboard during the duration of the scientific activities.
- All Yachts must present a Fumigation Certificate and a Clean Hull certificate obtained in the last port before the arrival to the Galapagos.

A 30 + Day Stop
Multiple ports with an Autografo to visit San Cristobal, Santa Cruz and Isabela islands will need the following permit:

Emergency Stop – 72 Hours
All ships have the right to request though a Yacht agency an Emergency Stop at the Galapagos ports, mostly due to mechanical or medical reasons.
The Galapagos authorities are very strict, so upon the arrival, the Navy Authorities will inspect your ship and the Port Captain will decide if the emergency is real.
If you stop for a short time, you will only pay the minimum fees for Port Cleaning.
